Tineo is the birthplace of Jamones El Castillo, a town with agricultural and stock breeding tradition that is located on the western side of Asturias. Protected with excellent natural conditions, this is the place where the company was created in the year 1936. In addition to this plant, El Castillo has its headquarters (offices and warehouse) in Noreña, a town that is located in the heart of Asturias and is nationally known as the birthplace of pork butchers, where more than ten famous factories of sausages and meat products are located.

The company was established as a Public Limited Company in December 1985, and since then, the Fernández-Cancio family has its sole ownership.

In 1991, El Castillo obtained European authorization to trade within the European Community, allowing their products to be marketed within the European Community and from which a large foreign trade network has been obtained.

With an annual production of 400,000 hams, El Castillo has obtained an important place in the national and international markets and its products are currently exported to various countries all over the world.
